Bike It

Here are a few of my favorite rides (with rough distances from and to the Eastern side of SF, or from the relevant BART station)

Local rides:

• Butterlap (SF, 17 miles, mostly flat)
• Headlands Conzelman Loop (Marin, 25 miles)
• Ride & hike to the Tourist Club (Marin, 38 miles + hiking)
• Livermore Wine Valley (East Bay, 25 miles)
• Port Costa (East Bay, 30 miles)
• Paradise Loop (Marin, 50 miles, or less using the ferry)
• Grizzly Peak Variant (East Bay, 53 hilly miles combining Wildcat, McEwen, Pig Farm, 3 Bears)
• Alpine Dam (Marin, 70 miles, quite hilly)
• Old La Honda, Pescadero, Tunitas Creek (peninsula, 63 miles, with many long uphills and twisty descents)

Local overnight rides:

• SF to Montara overnight, via wild Old San Pedro (“Planet of the Apes”) (60 miles round trip)
• SF to Point Reyes overnight, via Highway 1 and back via Nicasio Reservoir (130 miles total including a side trip to Marshall for oysters)
• SF <-> Russian River Brewing Co (130ish miles round trip)
• Napa Valley overnight camping (90 miles round trip)
• SF <-> Sonoma overnight camping (135 miles round trip)

Rides elsewhere:

• Multnomah Falls (Portland, 40ish miles, hilly)
• Vineyards around Epernay (rural France, 40 miles)
• Maggia Valley (Switzerland, 40 miles)
• Chicago <-> Wisconsin (120 miles)
• RAGBRAI (Iowa, 460 miles, a party)
• Netherlands and Belgium (600ish miles)

Perhaps some day I’ll put together a combined Bay Area map where you can see rides by region or starting point — the text-based search tools on a lot of sites just aren’t that useful.
